Geography of Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan is located in the South Caucasus. From the east Azerbaijan is washed by the Caspian Sea, in the west it borders Armenia and Georgia, in the north – Russia, in the south-west – Turkey and in the south – Iran. The majority of Azerbaijan’s territory is occupied by the Greater Caucasus and Lesser Caucasus Mountains. The area of Azerbaijan is 86,600 sq. km. There is lowland in the central area through which the Kura River flows. Climate is dry, subtropical with hot summers and mild winters. The territory of Azerbaijan envelops nine climatic zones. Average temperature of January is 0oC, +4oC; July +25oC, +28oC. The greatest height above sea level is the mountain Bazarduzu – 4,466 m.
